Most "color-picker" apps display RGB values of pixels, but RGB is practically useless for oil painters, watercolorists and other fine artists. I have been looking for a grayscale display capability in an artists' tool since digital cameras and high-res tablets have been in existence and never found what I wanted. For this reason, I wrote this no-frills, simple but useful app.
To fill this niche void, GrayScaler displays both the standard RGB values as well as the accurately calculated gray value of any point in an image on virtually any Android phone or tablet (Android 5.1 to 9). In addition it allows the artist to convert a loaded image to either a 5- or 10-gray level image. Among other benefits, this feature alone makes GrayScaler ideal for analyzing the value relationships in your own paintings – just take a quick shot of the painting, load it into the app, and convert the image to 5 or 10 levels to see whether the big shapes hold together for a good composition!
Normally, artists number gray levels from 1 (black) to 10 (white). In GrayScaler, the gray levels are calculated and displayed to one decimal place, allowing you to estimate whether the value is slightly lighter or darker than the standard value number.
Pinch, zoom and drag of the image are completely supported.
GrayScaler has been tested with Android 5.1 on a Google Nexus 10 through Android 9 on a Samsung Galaxy S 10 so it should work without problem on almost all devices.
